Chicago Weekend

St. Patty's Day Gang (after the race)

This past weekend, I flew to Chicago to spend some quality time with my sister (schwester in German – see I am learning). Grace lives in Lisle, near Naperville, about 35 minutes West of downtown Chicago.

The weekend started on Saturday with an 8 a.m. 5K run for St. Patty’s day. I used to run all the time, and although I didn’t have time to train, I wanted to do the race. I finished in 33 minutes, which I was happy with. My legs, however, weren’t quite so happy. I could hardly move after, but I pushed through the pain and still enjoyed the rest of the trip.

Saturday evening, we hung out with my sister’s friends. There are too many details to write about, but everyone had a great time. My favorite quote from the night was, “Yo bro, we need to get a keg.” I think these pictures best describe our St. Patrick’s Day celebrations:

On Sunday morning, we got out of bed to go play Whirly Ball (don’t worry, I had no idea what it was either). If you’ve never played, watch this video. It’s a mix of lacrosse, basketball and bumper cars. Although I didn’t quite get the hang of it, I had a lot of fun laughing (and slamming into walls).

After the game, we met up with our friends Greg, Shaun and Angie. We did some shopping at IKEA and had dinner at Front Street Cantina (one of my sister’s favorite restaurants in Naperville).

Even though we were exhausted by the end, it was a great weekend. We both agreed to set up flight alerts, because when you have so much fun together, it just seems silly to wait so long to do it again.
