Auld Lang Syne

31 Dec

Can you believe we’re at the brink of a new year? Do you feel the anticipation of what’s to come? Maybe it’s unrealistic to believe the striking of midnight wipes the slate clean and everyone gets a fresh start. But there is something exhilarating about the beginning of a new year. I can’t help but feel there’s a little magic in the air, ready to work wonders on those who would believe.

Tonight I’m reflecting on 2014 and feeling excited for what’s to come. I don’t know what 2015 will hold, but that’s the beauty of it.

Happy New Year! Cheers from me to you. xoxo

Welcome 2014

13 Jan

The new year always seems to sneak up on me. It’s not until a couple of weeks in that I realize I’m writing a new number at the end of the year, and when this happens, I like to reflect on all that took place. 2013 was an incredible year. At the beginning of last year I wrote, “This is the year I want to make things to happen. This is the year I want to do things for me and not feel guilty about it. This is the year I want to make myself the best I can be. In a nutshell, this is the year I need to grow up.”

Looking back, I feel like I did make things happen and finally did some things for me. I started a new job at a fantastic company, and I feel happy at work again. I moved into my own apartment, no roommates, no parents, just me. I ran my first 10K. I celebrated three years with my wonderful boyfriend. I turned 25. I tried some different experiences like celebrating the Passover Seder and going on my first hot air balloon ride. And I did my favorite thing, I traveled. Oh did I travel. I kicked off the year in Florida with Sebastian, enjoyed a quick trip to Arizona, stopped in Pittsburgh for a girls weekend, discovered Arkansas for the first time, walked the streets of Paris, drove through the South of France, spent quality time with my family in Colorado, checked out Milan and fell so in love with Rome.

Looking forward, this is the year I want to continually strive to find joy in life. The world has so much to offer, and I intend to take whatever it will give me. So yes, 2013 was great, but I have a feeling 2014 will be just as great. Cheers to 2014!

My favorite time of year

18 Dec

The house is decorated, the gifts are wrapped, and I’m eagerly waiting the coming days. This truly is my favorite time of year, and not just because it’s Christmas. The holiday season is a time spent with family and friends, and after the tragic events of last week, there is nothing I want more than to hug those closest to me.

My little brother comes home tomorrow (yippee!), and we’ve already made plans to see “Monsters Inc.” and go tubing together. A few other holiday plans include hanging out with my best friends, attending some awesome Christmas parties, a Kent State roomie reunion and of course Christmas day with my family (my favorite day!).

The best, however, comes after Christmas when Sebastian arrives back in the states (8 days and counting). Even better is that we’ll be celebrating New Year’s Eve in Florida! I’m so excited to take another trip together and spend time with my German over the holidays.

There’s so much to look forward to, I can hardly contain my excitement. So if a random girl gives you a big smile and a Christmas greeting, it’s probably me. Merry Christmas! xoxo

P.S. Any recommendations for things to do in Orlando are definitely welcome! And don’t worry, we already have Disney World covered :-)
