Running my first 10k

20 May

I’ve always considered myself a runner, mostly because of my love for soccer. Running was, and is, a great way to stay in shape. Over the years, however, it’s become more than that. It’s how I unwind and give myself time to think.

I’m not a fast runner, and I don’t usually do more than 3 to 4 miles at a time, but I run. I love this quote from Fred Lebow, the New York City Marathon co-founder:

“In running, it doesn’t matter whether you come in first, in the middle of the pack, or last. You can say, ‘I have finished.’ There is a lot of satisfaction in that.”

This past weekend, I completed my first 10k at the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time, and it was awesome. The running community is so supportive, whether you come in first or last, and Cleveland did a great job of organizing the event.

I can’t deny I’m a little sore today, but I feel proud in finishing the race.

Are you a runner? What do you love about the sport?
